Organizing a college event is a tough nut to crack and the nut turns out to be made of iron if the fest is that of an IIT!
TheCollegeFever.Com recently partnered with IIT Mandi for their annual fest Exodia 16.
Exodia is the annual Techno-cultural fest of Indian Institute of Technology Mandi. It is a three-day long event held every year. The first edition was held in 2012 and since then it has grown to be one of the largest student run college fests of the Himalayas. Events in Exodia- Technical, Cultural, Literary, Informal and online events.
We got a chance to discuss with chief coordinator for Exodia and discussed about the challenges and adventures that come along the way for organizing Exodia.
INTERVIEW WITH ANUBHAV AGRAWAL (Co-ordinator)
- Describe your feelings as the head of Exodia 2016.
It’s not an easy job. You have to coordinate with numerous people related directly or indirectly for your fest. It’s a very good feeling when you, being the coordinator of the fest get a deal finalized which is necessary for your event’s success.
- What got you interested to be a part of this organizing team?
I already have some experience in the management field, this added on as a confidence factor for me in becoming a part of this organizing team.
- How did you plan this festival? Take us through this huge process in brief?
We have a team consisting of two main coordinators and a vast team working under them. Proper mentorship from our previous coordinators boost up our confidence and thus motivating us to work more.
As we are new so proper guidance from our mentors is must for a fest’s success. During the fest ,we sit in the night and make plans for the next day, so that whatever went wrong or didn’t go up to our expectations isn’t repeated the next day of the fest.
In the end I would like to say that fresher’s are the backbone of a fest, they are the most enthusiastic ones and put in their best efforts to make the fest a success. In this whole process our college has always been our side to support us at each and every step.

- How did you select the organizing team? Any specific criteria?
The people interested in taking up a post have to submit their applications and then interview rounds are conducted by faculty advisors, previous year’s coordinators and secretaries of the college.
- Organizing a massive event is always challenging. Tell us about the key challenges you faced organizing this event.
Location has some advantages and disadvantages. In Mandi, it rains heavily sometimes during the 3 days of fest. If it rains then we have to shift our outdoor stage to shaded place. Other challenges include getting the crowd assembled and managing it.
- How was your experience with TheCollegeFever?
It was a very good experience. Avinash is very co-operative, he got a link prepared for us urgently even on the day of Christmas, which a national holiday. The College Fever team is very helpful and we are looking forward to work with them in future too.
- Finally, what advice would you give to other event/fest organizers?
I would advice to come up with a team 3-4 months prior to a fest, publicize and manage your fest on time and be very active during these 3-4 months.
